| Throughout
Northern Europe, forests are managed to
ensure that there are more trees growing
than are being harvested. The annual surplus
of growth over harvest being a staggering
252 million cubic metres.
Apart
from using less energy to heat, a timber
frame home uses iess energy to build. Wood
grows naturally and needs only minimal
energy to fell, mill, transport and
construct.
By
contrast, the production of concrete and
steel building materials takes a great deal
of energy and creates unwanted pollution.
As
wood is a renewable material and as the
trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide from
the atmosphere, giving out the oxygen we
breathe. Therefore, using timber frame helps
to reduce the growth of global warming and
complies with the Building Regulations for
the Conservation of Fuel and Power. |
